Description
Mars Shinshu in Nagano's Central Alps was established by Hombo Shuzo in 1985 and restarted in 2011, and this single cask single malt represents a 2017 distillation. Cask number 3618, a first-fill bourbon barrel, was bottled at 62% for the Austrian market after four years of maturation.
The flavour profile of cooked fruit and honey reflects the interaction of a lively young Nagano distillate with first-fill American oak, where the wood contributes sweetness while the spirit retains its fruit-forward core. At four years old and cask strength, the bottling captures the distillery's clean, mountain-air character in an early and energetic state, before longer maturation would soften the edges.
