Fresh fruit and honey develop in this 2015 vintage four year old single malt from Mars Shinshu, aged partly at Hombo Shuzo’s Yakushima island warehouse off Kagoshima, the subtropical climate accelerating the Ex-Bourbon maturation before a 58% cask strength European market bottling in 2019.

Description
The Mars 2015 Yakushima Aging is a four year old single malt from Mars Shinshu, Hombo Shuzo's Nagano distillery at Miyada in the Central Alps, aged at least in part at the company's warehouse on Yakushima island in Kagoshima. The warm, humid subtropical environment of Yakushima speeds the interaction between spirit and Ex-Bourbon wood considerably relative to the cool alpine conditions of the home site.
Bottled at 58% cask strength for the European market in 2019, the whisky shows fresh fruit and honey, a profile consistent with the riper, more forward extraction characteristic of warm-climate maturation. Compared to standard Mars Shinshu bottlings from the same vintage aged entirely at Miyada, the Yakushima Aging expressions typically show more developed sweetness and a fuller body at the same age, the island warehouse doing measurable work on the spirit over four years.
