Description
The Mars 2012 Cask 1436 is a single cask single malt from Mars Shinshu in Miyada, Nagano, drawn from an Oloroso sherry cask and bottled at cask strength for the Japanese market in 2015 after three years of maturation. Where the bourbon cask releases from this vintage lean into clean wood and fresh cereal, Cask 1436 takes a different direction, the sherry wood driving the flavour profile from the start.
At 58% and just three years old, the sherry cask will have contributed colour, dried fruit and a spicy sweetness that sits prominently over the clean Nagano distillate. Oloroso maturation at this age is less about integration and more about the cask's direct imprint on the spirit, making Cask 1436 one of the more expressive and fruit-forward of the early Mars Shinshu single cask series.
