Description
The Mars 2011 Cask 1347 is a single cask single malt from Mars Shinshu in Miyada, Nagano, distilled in the first year of the distillery's revival under Hombo Shuzo and bottled as an individual cask in 2015 after four years in American White Oak. Single cask releases from this early period are among the most direct expressions of what the revived still was producing.
Bottled at cask strength at 61% for the Japanese market without chill filtration or dilution, this bottling strips away any blending or reduction. In the absence of specific tasting data, the profile follows the house pattern for young American White Oak spirit from this era: new wood resin, cereal, vanilla and the clean mountain air quality that distinguishes the high-altitude Nagano environment. A collector's piece as much as a whisky.
