Description
The Mars 1986 is a single malt from Mars Shinshu, the Hombo Shuzo distillery in the Central Alps of Nagano, distilled six years before the site was mothballed in 1992 and left to mature in silence until the distillery was revived in 2011 and the cask eventually bottled in 2016. At 30 Years Old, it represents one of the oldest known expressions from the site and a direct link to Japan's first whisky boom era.
Matured entirely in American White Oak Ex-Bourbon casks, the whisky was bottled at natural cask strength of 61% for the Japanese market. Three decades in wood at high altitude will have deepened the spirit considerably, and in the absence of tasting data the profile is expected to lean into rich vanilla, aged fruit, dried wood spice and the slow-building depth that comes from long oak contact at the cool, stable temperatures of Miyada.
