This series aimed to shift the focus from traditional age statements to highlighting the natural color of the whisky, derived entirely from its maturation in sherry-seasoned oak casks. The 1824 Series represents The Macallan’s exploration of how cask type and wood interaction influence the whisky’s profile, with each expression, including Gold, reflecting a different shade of color, from light to dark.

Description
Distilled using their signature "Curiously Small Stills," which are among the smallest in Scotland, each with a capacity of 3,900 liters and standing under four meters tall. Golden Promise barley is used, a traditional variety known for its richness. Fermentation involves two different yeast strains, used to boost the alcohol content while providing a smooth mouthfeel. Aged in a carefully selected mix of casks: over 60% are Spanish sherry-seasoned oak casks from the renowned Gonzalez Byass Bodega in Jerez, with additional aging taking place in American sherry-seasoned and American bourbon-seasoned oak barrels.
