A six year old column still rum from Belize bottled by The Liquor Company at 40.2%, leaning woody and spicy with a thread of chocolate and a touch of warmth, a dry, oak-forward everyday rum rather than a sweet, fruit-driven one.
Description
This Cuate Anejo Reserva is a Belizean rum selected by The Liquor Company, distilled on a column still from molasses and matured for six years in ex-bourbon wood. At 40.2% it is built for easy drinking, and its character sits on the drier, more savoury side of Central American rum.
Wood and spice lead the way on both nose and palate, with baking spice and oak framing a modest core of chocolate and a faint note of spirit. There is little overt sweetness here, which gives it an honest, slightly austere feel compared with the sugar-led rums the region sometimes produces. It is a reasonable everyday sipper for those who prefer their rum dry and spice-driven, and it holds its own over a single ice cube or in a simple rum cocktail where its woody backbone adds structure.
