A distillery bottling of Lindores Abbey, a 5 year old release from 2018, drawn from cask 2018/0626 and bottled at 60.4%. The outturn was 291 bottles. Lindores Abbey, in Fife, is widely called the spiritual home of Scotch whisky, the place named in the 1494 record of Friar John Cor. The first single malt, MCDXCIV, the Roman numerals for 1494, was released in 2021.

It was drawn off the distillery's copper stills, for a full, fruity make ready for active wood. An unusual cask gave it a distinctive, fruity character. Active first fill wood pulls colour and flavour quickly into the young Lindores spirit. The Tironensian abbey was founded in 1191 on the banks of the Tay, and welcomed kings for centuries. Lindores also makes Aqua Vitae, a botanical spirit after the medieval water of life. The whisky is bottled on site at Newburgh to keep transport low. A young distillery, it leans on active casks to bring its whisky to life quickly.

At its natural 60.4% it is concentrated. The Port cask adds plum and red berry. The mouthfeel is full, the fruit carried on a young body. Orchard fruit and a baking spice see out the finish. This is a characterful young Lowland single malt.
