The Islay Rum Company The Original Islay Rum {Geal Pure Single Rum} 2022

The Original Islay Rum, here in its Geal pure single bottling from 2022, is made by The Islay Rum Company on the Scottish island better known for peated whisky. Matured in whisky casks and bottled young at 45%, it is a maritime take on rum that leans into its island setting rather than tropical sweetness.

The nose is distinctly coastal, floral and savoury with olive, salt and roasted almond, while the palate runs light and dry with a faintly bitter, spirit forward edge. The finish softens into vanilla, cream and fresh oak from the cask. This is a lean, briny style closer to a young farmhouse spirit than a rich aged rum, best suited to drinkers who enjoy delicate, saline profiles and are curious to see what a Hebridean distillery brings to cane spirit.
