A Cuban style ron from the Vigia distillery bottled by The Island Rum Company, this 13 year Mezcla pours sweet vanilla, caramel and dried fruit with a light smoky and woody touch, an easy, faintly sweet column-still sipper at 41%.
Description
La Progresiva de Vigia comes from the Vigia distillery in Cuba, with this Mezcla 13 carried under The Island Rum Company label. Made from molasses on a column still and aged in ex-bourbon casks, it sits in the lighter ron ligero tradition that defines Cuban distillation, where charcoal-filtered, column led spirit keeps things clean and the barrel adds the colour and depth.
The nose offers vanilla, caramel and a wisp of smoke over a spirity lift, the palate is sweet with smoky, dried fruit and vanilla notes, and the finish dries out with wood, dried fruit and spice. At 41% it drinks easy and slightly sweet, a casual sipper for relaxed evenings or a step up from a basic mixer. It does not chase a long finish or heavy weight, so it is best framed as an everyday Cuban style pour with enough character to stay interesting neat.
