Description
A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, bottled at 46%. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. Its 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated, and the Triple Distilled.
It was drawn off the stills from peated barley for a smoky spirit, for a peated spirit with a sweet smoke. It was matured in ex-Bourbon oak, lending vanilla and honey. A young distillery leans on lively wood, the cask shaping much of the flavour. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration. It sits in Hillington Business Park in the southwest of Glasgow, just off the M8.
Reduced to 46%, it is mellow. Peat smoke over vanilla and orchard fruit lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. The mouthfeel is full, the fruit carried on a young body. The finish runs smoky, fruity and warm. This is the peated 1770 of Glasgow.
