Description
An official Glasgow Distillery single malt matured to 7 year old from 2019, drawn from cask 19/1534, 19/1535, and 19/1536 and bottled at 53%. Only 1060 bottles were released. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters.
It was distilled from Scottish barley in copper stills on Loch Katrine water, giving the bright, fruity Glasgow spirit. Ex-Bourbon casks held the spirit, soft oak under the fruit. The fruity young make takes a wide range of casks well, from sherry to wine. The stills are named for the founders' families and for the MacDonald artist sisters. A young distillery, it leans on active wood to bring its whisky to life quickly. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020. The make is bright and fruity, a modern, metropolitan take on Lowland malt.
At its natural 53% it is concentrated. Green apple, pear and a soft vanilla lead, and the ex-Bourbon lends vanilla, honey and a soft apple. It is fruity and bold, the spirit and oak well matched. It finishes fresh, fruity and full. This is a young Glasgow Lowland single malt.
