A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, a 5 year old Glasgow malt from 2018, drawn from cask 18/991 and bottled at 58%. The outturn was 264 bottles. Founded in 2012 by Liam Hughes and Mike Hayward, The Glasgow Distillery Company brought malt whisky back to the city. The 1770 name recalls that original Glasgow distillery, founded in 1770 at Dundashill.

It was distilled from Scottish barley in copper stills on Loch Katrine water, giving the bright, fruity Glasgow spirit. An unusual cask choice gave it a distinctive, fruity character. A young distillery leans on lively wood, the cask shaping much of the flavour. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration.

At cask strength 58% it is muscular. Green apple, pear and a soft vanilla lead, and the Tequila cask adds an earthy, peppery, agave edge. The texture is young and lively, the fruit lifted by oak. It closes bright, fruity and warm. This is a fruity young single malt from Glasgow.
