Description
An official Glasgow Distillery single malt, a 4 year old release from 2018, drawn from cask 18/960 and bottled at 60.5%. A release of 284 bottles. The Glasgow Distillery Company took its 1770 name from the city's old Dundashill distillery, and revived Glasgow malt in 2012. The first malt casks were filled in 2015, and the first single malt was released in 2018.
The spirit was drawn off copper stills fed by Loch Katrine water, for a young, fruity spirit ready for active wood. Ex-Sherry wood added a dried fruit richness, fast on the young spirit. Active first fill wood pulls colour and flavour quickly into the young spirit. It was named Scottish Distillery of the Year in 2020. The make is bright and fruity, a modern, metropolitan take on Lowland malt. Production has grown year on year as demand for Glasgow malt has risen.
At a natural 60.5% it is bold and full. Apple, citrus and a gentle malt lead, and the Moscatel brings grape, honey and a floral lift, and the virgin oak gives vanilla, baking spice and a little coconut. A vanilla and a gentle spice give it depth. A fruity, gently spiced finish lingers. This is the 1770 single malt of Glasgow.
