Description
A distillery release of 1770 Glasgow, aged 7 year old from 2018, drawn from cask 18/1204 and bottled at 58.4%. Just 306 bottles were filled. The Glasgow Distillery Company opened in Hillington in 2012, the first malt distillery in Glasgow since 1902. Its 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated, and the Triple Distilled.
Made in copper stills for the fresh, fruity house make, for a fruity, vibrant make. Maturation in a sherry cask laid dried fruit over the fruit. Years in active oak round the young spirit and add the cask's own character. Makar Gin came first, in 2014, and helped fund the return of whisky to the city. The first single malt casks were filled in 2015, the first whisky released in 2018. The distillery is known for an adventurous cask policy, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled.
At 58.4%, undiluted, it is rich and vivid. Pear, vanilla and a citrus lift lead, and the Oloroso brings dried fruit, fig and a nutty depth. The mouthfeel is full, the fruit carried on a young body. The close is warm, fruit over young oak. This is a bright, fruity young Glasgow whisky.
