Description
This 1770 Glasgow single malt, a 7 year old release from 2017, drawn from cask 17/549 17/550 17/563 and bottled at 60.2%. 860 bottles in all. The Glasgow Distillery Company was founded in 2012 and revived single malt distilling in Glasgow after more than a century. The distillery is known for adventurous cask maturation, from Cognac and Marsala to Port and Tequila.
The spirit was worked through copper pot stills for a clean, fruity spirit, for the fresh, fruity make at the heart of the 1770 style. A sherry cask wrapped the young spirit in dried fruit and a nutty depth. The casks here are very active, and on a young spirit they work fast, giving real depth in just a few years. The 1770 single malt comes in three styles: The Original, the Peated and the Triple Distilled. Water is drawn from Loch Katrine, and the whisky is bottled at natural colour without chill filtration.
Bottled at a cask strength 60.2%, it is intense. Green apple and a creamy malt lead, and the Marsala lends raisin and brown sugar. Soft orchard fruit sits behind the cask sweetness. Orchard fruit and a soft oak see out the finish. This is a cask driven young Lowland malt from Glasgow.
