Description
A single cask Foursquare from the 2001 vintage, bottled at 18 years by The Duchess. Foursquare, run by fourth generation distiller Richard Seale in St Philip, is the critics' darling of Barbados, working a traditional pot and column blend with a strict no additives policy, so this is dry, honest rum aged to full maturity.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at cask strength, it shows coconut, raisin and vanilla over caramel, with the wood asserting itself after long ageing and a roasted, spicy, tropical fruit finish. The high proof brings some astringency from the oak, in keeping with an older single cask, but the Foursquare house signature is unmistakable. Unsweetened and undiluted at 56.9%.
