A cask strength single cask Beenleigh from Australia, dry and woody with pear, peach, honey and vanilla over assertive oak, distilled on pot still from molasses and bottled at a powerful 63.4% that rewards time in the glass.
Description
The Duchess bottled this single cask Beenleigh, distilled in 2007 and matured for thirteen years. Beenleigh is one of Australia's oldest rum names, and its pot still molasses spirit carries a distinctive mineral, herbal and orchard fruit signature that sets it apart from Caribbean profiles.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at full cask strength of 63.4% with no added sugar, this is a dry, wood forward rum that opens slowly. Pear runs right through it, joined by ripe peach, honey and vanilla, with the cask pushing firm oak, a touch of bitterness and warm spice on the finish. Give it air and a little water and the fruit lifts. One for drinkers who already enjoy powerful, oak driven single casks.
