The Cartmell Spirit Co Diamond Belgrove Small Batch Spiced Fig and Blackberry Rum is exactly what its name promises, a flavoured rum rather than a straight cask sample. The base is Demerara spirit from the Diamond distillery, drawn off a wooden continuous Coffey still of the Enmore lineage and carrying a 12 year age statement, then steeped with fig, blackberry and spice to make a fruit-forward bottling.

The nose leads with ripe blackberry, currants and red fruit, the added botanicals sitting clearly on top of the rum. At 40% it is soft and approachable, finishing on a candied, jammy note. This is honestly a dessert and mixing rum, sweet and fruity by design, and it makes no pretence at being a dry sipper. For drinkers who enjoy a spiced berry character over a long winter evening, it leans into that comfort rather than the woody, anise-driven side of classic Guyana.
