The Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur

The Bitter Truth Violet Liqueur is a floral liqueur from The Bitter Truth, a German maker of bitters and liqueurs for the bar trade, bottled at 22%. It is made from the flowers and roots of real violets infused in neutral alcohol, giving a floral, aromatic liqueur with a deep purple colour and a balance of sweetness, flowers and gentle spice. As a violet liqueur it is firmly a cocktail ingredient, valued for the perfume and colour it lends rather than for drinking long.

The nose is intense violet with fine wild berry and vanilla. The palate is floral, delicately sweet and harmonious with violet blossom, sugar and a creamy nuance, the finish elegant, floral and long with a fine perfume note. Behind the bar it contributes floral aroma, a soft sweetness and a striking colour, making it a signature ingredient in the Aviation, where violet is the classic top note, as well as a Violet Spritz and champagne cocktails. A small measure goes a long way, since the perfume is intense. It also works neat over ice for a gentle floral sip. Use sparingly to lift and colour a drink.
