Tetramythos farms organically at altitude near Patras in the Peloponnese, and this natural Agiorgitiko sees only stainless steel. Five months in tank keep it fresh and juicy, full of red berries and cherry.
Description
Tetramythos works in the hills near Patras in the northern Peloponnese, farming organically at altitude. This red is made from Agiorgitiko, Greece's most planted dark grape, valued for its deep colour, soft tannins and bright red fruit. The high-elevation vineyards sit on limestone soils, and the cooler mountain air, with a wide gap between warm days and cold nights, slows ripening and locks in acidity and aroma. Made as a natural wine with minimal intervention, it ages five months in stainless steel tanks rather than oak. The inert steel and short, cool ageing preserve the grape's fresh fruit and floral lift, giving a wine that is unforced and immediate. It pours a vivid ruby. The nose is youthful and perfumed, leading with red berries, cherry and ripe plum over rose, dried herbs and a peppery, earthy edge. The palate is light to medium bodied, the juicy fruit framed by gentle tannins and fresh acidity into a clean, savoury finish. This is a red for early drinking, served slightly cool. Serve at 14 to 16 degrees with roast poultry, pork or tomato-based dishes.
