Description
Croatian wine is only now returning to attention, and Testament in Dalmatia is a clear example, making this white from Posip, a native grape of the Dalmatian coast and islands. The wine is raised in stainless steel, a neutral reductive vessel that keeps the fruit fresh and the style clean, with a short two month rest on tank before bottling so the wine shows youth and vitality rather than developed character. Dalmatia is a warm, sun drenched Mediterranean region cooled by the Adriatic, and the sea breeze with cool nights holds acidity and gives the wine a saline, mineral grip alongside its ripeness. Posip is a fuller bodied white with good structure, and grown on these coastal, often stony soils it keeps both weight and freshness. Without oak the grape and the place lead, so the wine reads as pure varietal Posip. It pours bright straw. The nose is white peach, melon and citrus peel with a floral lift. The palate is textured and dry, ripe orchard fruit balanced by fresh acidity and a salty tang, closing clean. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
