Tesalia Arx is an Andalusian red from Arcos de la Frontera in Cádiz, blending Petit Verdot and Syrah with the local Tintilla de Rota. Twelve months in French oak frame ripe blackberry, plum and a warm, spiced character.
Description
Tesalia Arx comes from Arcos de la Frontera in the province of Cádiz, in the country between the Jerez plain and the Sierra in Andalusia, where the Golding family established their estate. It is an organic red blending Petit Verdot and Syrah with Tintilla de Rota, a traditional local grape, grown in a warm southern climate tempered by Atlantic influence from the nearby coast. The albariza and clay soils of the area, rich in chalk, help retain moisture and lend freshness to wines from such a warm setting. Fermentation is followed by twelve months in French oak, where the barrel's slow oxygen exchange softens the naturally firm tannins of Petit Verdot and rounds the ripe fruit. The colour is deep and dark. The nose unveils ripe blackberry, strawberry and plum with liquorice, black pepper, dried herbs and a cocoa edge from the oak. The palate is full and warm at 14%, with ripe tannins, good freshness and a long, spiced finish. Serve at 16 to 18 degrees, decanted ahead. It is a good match for roast and grilled red meat and aged cheese.
