Dominik Huber makes this Garnacha for Terroir Sense Fronteres in D.O. Montsant, a freer outlet beside his Priorat work. Aged six months in stainless steel only, it is bright and unoaked, with red cherry, plum and a herbal, stony lift.
Description
Terroir Sense Fronteres Negre is a Garnacha Tinta from Dominik Huber, the Priorat winemaker who built this project in neighbouring D.O. Montsant for greater freedom. Montsant wraps around Priorat in southern Catalonia and shares much of its character, with patches of slate alongside clay, limestone and sand. Garnacha here ripens fully under the warm Mediterranean climate while altitude and night-time cooling hold freshness. The aim is a light, expressive style, so the wine sees no oak. It ages six months in stainless steel only, which preserves the primary fruit and the herbal, mineral signature of the site without the spice or tannin that barrels would add. The result is fresh and direct. The colour is bright ruby. The nose shows red cherry, raspberry and plum over dried herbs and a stony, earthy note. The palate is medium bodied with lively acidity and soft tannins, the fruit clean and the finish savoury rather than sweet. Farmed under respectful agriculture. Serve lightly chilled at 15C. Good with grilled vegetables, roast chicken and pork, and lighter tomato-based dishes.
