Terroir Sense Fronteres is Dominik Huber’s Montsant project, run with fewer constraints than his Priorat wines. This orange Garnacha Blanca is light and fresh, with lemon, white peach and a mineral, herbal lift.
Description
Terroir Sense Fronteres grew out of Dominik Huber's Priorat estate Terroir al Límit, after he found vineyards in the neighbouring D.O. Montsant where he could work with fewer constraints. The wines are made to be light and fresh, and this brisat from Garnacha Blanca follows that brief. Montsant rings Priorat with a mix of limestone and sandy soils, cooler and more open than its famous neighbour, which favours brightness and lift in the whites. The Garnacha Blanca is fermented with a short period of skin contact and then aged for six months in stainless steel. Holding the wine in inert steel rather than wood or clay keeps the fruit clean and the texture fresh, while the brief maceration gives only a light phenolic grip and a faint amber tint. At 12 percent the wine stays light bodied and bright. The colour is pale gold, with a nose of lemon, white peach and white flowers. The palate is dry and crisp, with pear and dried-herb tones, a gentle grip and a mineral, saline finish. Farmed with respectful, sustainable agriculture. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees, with fish, shellfish or a green salad.
