Terrazas de los Andes Malbec Reserva blends fruit from across Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley in Mendoza. Aged 14 months in French oak, it shows ripe plum, black fruit and violet with a fresh, high-altitude lift.
Description
Terrazas de los Andes draws this Reserva from around 100 plots across Lujan de Cuyo and the Uco Valley, two of Mendoza's leading sub-regions at the foot of the Andes. The wine is made from Malbec grown at altitude, where strong sunlight ripens the fruit and the cold mountain nights preserve acidity, the wide diurnal range that gives Mendoza Malbec its combination of ripe fruit and freshness. The stony, free-draining alluvial soils keep yields modest and lend a mineral grip to the palate. Blending across many plots and elevations builds complexity and balance. The wine is aged for 14 months in used French oak barrels, which round the tannins through gentle oxygen exchange while keeping the focus on fruit rather than new-oak flavour. The colour is deep violet. The nose shows ripe plum, black and red fruits and violet, with a touch of black pepper and vanilla. The palate is full and fresh, with supple tannins and a long, fruit-driven finish. Decant for half an hour and serve at 17 degrees in a large glass. It suits grilled meats and savoury dishes.
