Terra Remota Clos Adrien is an Empordà red from Emma and Marc Bournazeau, made from organic Syrah with a little Garnacha. Hand harvested, gently macerated and aged two years in French oak, it is a deep, peppery red of blackberry, plum and dark spice.
Description
Terra Remota Clos Adrien is made by Emma and Marc Bournazeau in Sant Climent Sescebes, in the Alt Empordà of Catalonia, from forty hectares of organically farmed vineyards. The wine is built on Syrah with a small share of Garnacha, both picked by hand into small crates and sorted before destemming. Empordà sits between the Pyrenees and the Mediterranean and is swept by the dry northerly tramontana wind, which keeps the grapes healthy and concentrates the fruit, while the granite and schist soils drain freely and add a mineral, savoury thread. The must is macerated gently with pigeage, a slow punching down of the cap that extracts colour and tannin gently. The wine is then aged twenty-four months in French oak, a long élevage that builds structure and adds spice and fine tannin through steady oxygen exchange. The colour is deep purple. The nose shows ripe blackberry and plum with black pepper, violet and a smoky, savoury edge. The palate is full bodied and warming, with ripe tannin, dark fruit and a long, spicy finish. Serve at 17 degrees and decant an hour ahead. It suits grilled and roasted red meats.
