Terra Remota makes this organic Garnacha rosé in the Alt Empordà, with a pre fermentation skin maceration and six months in barrel. The result is deeper and more textured than most, with ripe red berries, peach and a savoury, herbal edge.
Description
Caminito is a Garnacha rosé from Terra Remota, the estate Emma and Marc Bournazeau founded in the heart of the Alt Empordà at Sant Climent Sescebes in Girona. They farm 40 hectares of organically cultivated vineyards near the French border, where the dry, windswept Empordà climate and the cooling tramuntana wind keep the fruit healthy and fresh while the warm Mediterranean sun gives ripeness. The wine is made from Garnacha, destemmed and given a short pre fermentation skin maceration to draw out extra colour and aroma. It is then pressed and run off mid fermentation into barrels, where it finishes and rests for six months. That barrel ageing, with slow oxygen exchange and lees contact, builds texture and a savoury depth that sets this apart from lighter, simpler rosés while keeping it dry. The colour is a deeper pink. The nose shows ripe red berries, cherry and peach over dried herbs and a light vanilla note from the wood, and the palate is fuller and textured, dry and savoury with a long finish. Serve at around 10 degrees. It eats well with grilled pork, poultry and richer fish.
