Description
Tenute Capaldo makes this Greco di Tufo in Irpinia, in the Campania hills of southern Italy, under the guidance of Antonio Capaldo, who also leads Feudi di San Gregorio. The wine takes its name from the Goleto abbey, a twelfth century monastery that remains a landmark of the region. Greco di Tufo grows on volcanic tuff soils, the yellow tufo rock that gives the wine its name and its mineral, saline character, and the high inland hills bring cool nights and a wide diurnal range that hold the acidity through a warm growing season. Greco is a full bodied, structured white variety with real weight and a naturally nutty, savoury edge. This bottling is aged in barrel, where the oak and lees contact round the texture and add a subtle spice without covering the fruit. The 2021 pours bright gold. The nose leads with white peach and pear over almond, white flowers and a smoky mineral note. The palate is broad and structured, with ripe orchard fruit, a firm acid line, a nutty depth and a long, saline finish. Serve at 11 to 13 degrees in a white wine glass.

Additional information
Pour it with grilled sea bass, baked salmon or roast chicken, where the full body and structure have the weight to match. The saline mineral edge also suits shellfish and squid.
