Tenuta Meraviglia farms Cabernet Franc near the Tyrrhenian coast at Bolgheri in Tuscany. This Superiore Rosso spends twenty-four months in French oak and shows ripe red currant, plum and tobacco with a peppery, structured finish.
Description
Tenuta Meraviglia is a young Bolgheri estate owned by Alejandro Bulgheroni, sitting on a hill close to the Tyrrhenian Sea. The maritime setting matters: sea breezes moderate the Tuscan heat and lengthen the ripening season, so Cabernet Franc reaches full maturity while keeping its herbal, peppery signature. Bolgheri's gravel and clay soils drain well and concentrate the fruit, and the organic, sustainable farming preserves the freshness the wind delivers. As a Bolgheri Superiore, the wine is held to a longer ageing standard and spends twenty-four months in French oak. That extended barrel time builds structure and adds vanilla and sweet spice through gradual oxygen exchange, while polishing the tannins. The colour is deep ruby. The nose offers ripe red currant, dark plum and cherry, with tobacco, cedar and a lift of black pepper. The palate is full-bodied and firmly structured, the tannins ripe but assertive and carried by good acidity into a long finish. This is a wine built to age, though it rewards decanting now. Serve at 17 to 18 degrees in a large glass. It suits grilled beef and game.
