Tenuta di Carleone’s Chianti Classico is organic Sangiovese from Radda in Chianti, in the heart of the original Chianti zone. Aged eighteen months in steel and concrete, it shows red cherry, plum and a savoury, earthy frame.
Description
Chianti Classico covers the historic core of the Chianti zone between Florence and Siena, and Tenuta di Carleone farms its Sangiovese organically at Radda in Chianti, one of the higher and cooler communes. Radda's galestro and alberese soils, schistous and limestone rich, give Sangiovese firm acidity and a savoury mineral edge, while the altitude and large day to night temperature range extend the growing season and lock in aromatic detail. The wine is aged for eighteen months in stainless steel and concrete, both neutral vessels that preserve fruit purity and let slow oxygen exchange settle the tannin without adding oak character. The colour is medium ruby. The nose shows red cherry, plum and violet over dried herbs, tobacco and earth. The palate is medium bodied with bright acidity, fine tannin and a long, savoury finish typical of cool site Sangiovese. Serve at sixteen to eighteen degrees and decant if young. It suits roast meats, ragù and aged sheep's cheese.
