A 15 Year Old cane juice Trinidad single cask at a fierce 64.3%, this Ten Cane bottling brings smoky wood, dried fruit, big mint and menthol with dry tannins, an intense, slightly dirty pour that opens with air and water.
Description
Ten Cane Rumclub Private Selection Ed. 42 is an unusual Trinidad rum, selected as a single cask by Spirit of Rum. Where most of the island's rum is column distilled from molasses, this 2008 distillate is made from fresh sugar cane juice, giving it a different backbone, and at 15 years old it has taken on serious depth.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and bottled at a formidable cask strength of 64.3% without sweetening, it leads with smoky, roasted wood and dried fruit, then turns intensely minty and menthol driven on the palate, with dry tannins and a woody, cooling finish. There are echoes of heavy TDL and even lighter Caroni in its dirty, savoury edges. The strength means it genuinely opens with time in the glass or a splash of water, rewarding slow, attentive sipping rather than casual pouring.
