Telmo Rodríguez Corriente 2023

Corriente is the everyday Rioja from Compañía de Vinos Telmo Rodríguez, one of Spain's most respected producers and a champion of old vineyards across the country. It blends Tempranillo with Garnacha and Graciano grown in D.O.Ca. Rioja, where clay and limestone soils and a climate moderated between Atlantic and Mediterranean influences give Tempranillo its balance of fruit and structure. After harvest the grapes are destemmed and given a cold maceration to draw colour and fresh fruit aromas before fermentation, then fermented at controlled temperatures in stainless steel to keep the fruit clean and primary. The wine is aged for twelve months in barrels and foudres of varying ages, a mix that adds roundness and a light spice while keeping oak flavour in the background so the fruit leads. It is medium ruby, with raspberry and cherry on the nose lifted by black pepper and a touch of vanilla and liquorice. The palate is juicy and medium bodied, with supple tannin, good acidity and a fresh finish. Serve at around 16 degrees. A versatile partner for roast and grilled meats.
