Description
An independent Teaninich, chosen and bottled by James Eadie matured to 9 year old from 2010, drawn from cask 718018 718019 721587 and bottled at 46%. Only 1084 bottles were released. Teaninich, first built in 1817 near the Cromarty Firth at Alness, is a key malt of Johnnie Walker. Fat copper stills add an oily texture to the clean, grassy spirit.
Distilled on Highland spring water through fat copper stills, building the light Highland style blenders prize. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the grassy spirit. At a youthful age the green tea and citrus run bright. The ultra clear wort from the mash filter is the source of the green, grassy character. Teaninich Castle nearby, once the family seat, is now a hotel and restaurant. Robert Innes Cameron, an Elgin blender, became sole owner in 1904. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling.
At 46% it is soft, green and oily. Green tea, lemon and a soft spice sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish is waxy, green and lively. This is a Johnnie Walker workhorse from the Highlands.
