A Teaninich single malt, chosen and bottled by Global Whisky Limited, aged 8 year old from 2012 and bottled at 40.8%. Teaninich was established in 1817 in the northern Highlands at Alness, and it has long been prized by blenders. In 1887 it became the first distillery north of Inverness with electricity and a telephone.

The spirit was run from a clear wort through the distillery's tall stills, to build a clean, waxy, grassy character. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. At a youthful age the green tea and citrus run bright. A clean wort and a long ferment build the fragrant, green tea note. Filled spirit is tankered away to mature in Diageo's central warehouses. The name comes from the Gaelic for house on the hill, a nod to the old estate. By the 1970s Teaninich was already one of the largest distilleries in Scotland. The River Averon runs beside the distillery on its way to the firth.

At 40.8% it is supple and grassy. Green tea, lemon and a soft spice sit alongside soft vanilla and honey from the cask. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A long, oily finish carries a green lift. This is a Johnnie Walker workhorse from the Highlands.
