Description
From Douglas Laing comes this Teaninich, aged 8 year old from 2011, drawn from cask DL 13795 and bottled at 46%. Just 388 bottles were filled. Teaninich, a large Highland distillery beside the River Averon at Alness, was first built in 1817. Teaninich is Diageo's third largest distillery, and almost all its make goes to blends.
Mashed through a mash filter for an ultra clear wort and distilled in fat copper stills, giving the fresh, green spirit at its heart. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the green fruit. Still young, the malt is grassy and oily with a citrus lift. Most Teaninich is filled into refill ex-Bourbon, letting the make show through. A long fermentation builds the fresh, green fruit the blenders prize. A 2013 expansion added a new six still house, more than doubling capacity. Most casks are refill ex-Bourbon, which lets the grassy spirit show through.
At 46% it is soft, green and oily. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with citrus, cut grass and a waxy lift. It is fresh and clean, the green spirit shining through. It closes clean, grassy and waxy. This is the green, waxy malt of Alness.
