Description
From Edition Spirits comes this Teaninich, a 28 year old from 1982, drawn from cask ES 004/01 and bottled at 49.5%. Teaninich, founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro near the Cromarty Firth at Alness, is a key malt of Johnnie Walker. It was founded by Blind Captain Hugh Munro, a Napoleonic veteran, on his Teaninich estate.
Distilled on Highland spring water through fat copper stills, building the light Highland style blenders prize. It was matured in refill ex-Bourbon oak, lending honey and vanilla. Past twenty years the spirit turns honeyed and waxy while keeping its green lift. The unpeated spirit lets the wood and the green fruit speak without smoke. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins. A long fermentation of around 75 hours builds the fresh, fruity notes. Filled spirit is tankered away to mature in Diageo's central warehouses.
At cask strength 49.5% it is muscular yet green. Green tea, lemon and a soft spice sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A clean, gently waxy finish lingers. This is a Johnnie Walker workhorse from the Highlands.
