Description
Bottled by Lady of the Glen, this Teaninich matured to 13 year old from 2010, drawn from cask 721009 and bottled at 58%. The outturn was 262 bottles. Teaninich was founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro in the northern Highlands at Alness, and it sends almost all of its make to blends. Fat copper stills add an oily texture to the clean, grassy spirit.
The spirit was run from a clear wort through the distillery's tall stills, to build a clean, waxy, grassy character. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the grassy spirit. Mid age brings a deeper honey and a riper green fruit. A clean wort and a long ferment build the fragrant, green tea note. Teaninich Castle nearby, once the family seat, is now a hotel and restaurant. Robert Innes Cameron, an Elgin blender, became sole owner in 1904. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins.
At a natural 58% it is full and oily. Grass, pear and a gentle wax meet soft vanilla and honey from the cask. The mouthfeel is waxy, the citrus carried on a grassy body. The finish is waxy, green and lively. This is Teaninich's clean, grassy Highland style.
