Description
An independent Teaninich, drawn and bottled by Mossburn - Distillers & Blenders, a 13 year old from 2009, drawn from cask Batch 17.0909.32 and bottled at 56.2%. Teaninich, a large Highland distillery beside the River Averon at Alness, was built in 1817. Its make is a key part of Johnnie Walker, Haig and VAT 69.
Mashed through a mash filter for an ultra clear wort and distilled in fat copper stills, giving the fresh, green spirit at its heart. A wine cask shaped it, the fruit meeting the green, oily spirit. By this age the green spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a waxy depth. Most Teaninich is filled into refill ex-Bourbon, letting the make show through. By the 1970s Teaninich was already one of the largest distilleries in Scotland. The River Averon runs beside the distillery on its way to the firth. A long fermentation builds the fresh, green fruit the blenders prize.
At a natural 56.2% it is full and oily. The wine cask lends red berry and a dry spice, and the refill oak lending honey and vanilla, with cut grass, green tea and a soft citrus. A green tea and a lemon note lift it. The close is fresh, grass over gentle oak. This is a rare single malt from a blending giant.
