Description
This is a Teaninich single malt, selected and bottled by Berry Bros & Rudd, aged 13 year old from 2009, drawn from cask 11087 and bottled at 55.1%. Only 130 bottles were released. Teaninich, a large Highland distillery beside the River Averon at Alness, was opened in 1817 on the Teaninich estate. Teaninich is Diageo's third largest distillery, and almost all its make goes to blends.
Mashed through a mash filter for an ultra clear wort and distilled in fat copper stills, giving the fresh, green spirit at its heart. Maturation came in ex-Bourbon wood, with vanilla under the grassy spirit. By this age the green spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a waxy depth. A patient maturation suits the light, grassy Teaninich character. Teaninich Castle nearby, once the family seat, is now a hotel and restaurant. Robert Innes Cameron, an Elgin blender, became sole owner in 1904. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling.
Bottled at a cask strength 55.1%, it is rich. The refill oak lending honey and vanilla runs under a clean, green fruitiness. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. The finish runs fresh, green and oily. This is a fresh, oily Highland single malt.
