Description
Whisky AGE bottled this Teaninich single malt, a 13 year old from 2008, drawn from cask 706296 and bottled at 53.6%. Only 248 bottles were released. Set at Alness in Easter Ross, Teaninich has distilled since 1817. Fat copper stills add an oily texture to the clean, grassy spirit.
It was worked through the distillery's stills from a very clear wort, for the light, grassy, oily make Teaninich is known for. An ex-Bourbon barrel shaped it, gentle American oak beneath the green fruit. Past a decade the grass deepens, the wax and a soft honey building over green fruit. The penetrating, fresh acidity of the spirit keeps it lively with age. Teaninich Castle nearby, once the family seat, is now a hotel and restaurant. Robert Innes Cameron, an Elgin blender, became sole owner in 1904. The Munro family ran the distillery through two generations before selling. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins.
Undiluted at 53.6%, it is layered. A fresh, oily grassiness meet a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. A green fruit and a gentle oak give it depth. A clean, gently waxy finish lingers. This is a light, grassy Highland single malt.
