Description
From The Vintage Malt Whisky Co Ltd comes this Teaninich, a 12 year old Highland malt from 2011, drawn from cask 711943 and bottled at 52%. Just 354 bottles were filled. Teaninich, founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro near the Cromarty Firth at Alness, is a key malt of Johnnie Walker. Single malt is rare; the Flora and Fauna 10 year old is the only regular official bottling.
Distilled on Highland spring water through fat copper stills, building the light Highland style blenders prize. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. By this age the green spirit rounds into orchard fruit and a waxy depth. The penetrating, fresh acidity of the spirit keeps it lively with age. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins. A long fermentation of around 75 hours builds the fresh, fruity notes. Filled spirit is tankered away to mature in Diageo's central warehouses.
At 52%, undiluted, it is deep and grassy. Green tea, lemon and a soft spice sit alongside honeyed oak sweetness underneath. The mouthfeel is waxy, the citrus carried on a grassy body. A long, oily finish carries a green lift. This is a Johnnie Walker workhorse from the Highlands.
