Description
Morrison Scotch Whisky Distillers bottled this Teaninich single malt matured to 11 year old from 2010 and bottled at 47.5%. 1028 bottles in all. Set at Alness in Easter Ross, Teaninich has distilled since 1817. Fat copper stills add an oily texture to the clean, grassy spirit.
It was worked through the distillery's stills from a very clear wort, for the light, grassy, oily make Teaninich is known for. It rested in ex-Bourbon oak, the wood adding a light honeyed sweetness. Still young, the malt is grassy and oily with a citrus lift. The light, oily make takes cask character well across maturation. The Cromarty Firth nearby is one of few UK waters home to bottlenose dolphins. A long fermentation of around 75 hours builds the fresh, fruity notes. Filled spirit is tankered away to mature in Diageo's central warehouses. The name comes from the Gaelic for house on the hill, a nod to the old estate.
Bottled at a cask strength 47.5%, it is rich. A grassy, waxy freshness sit alongside a quiet vanilla from the refill oak. It is fresh and oily, the fruit and oak well matched. The finish is waxy, green and lively. This is the green tea malt of Easter Ross.
