A powerful Belize column still rum from Travellers, bottled at high cask strength by Transcontinental Rum Line, rich with sweet cocoa, roasted coffee, cinnamon and dried fruit over plenty of oak, a heavy sipper that opens with water at 65.5%.
Description
TCRL Travellers 2006 is a fourteen and a half year old single cask from the Travellers Liquors distillery in Belize, bottled by Transcontinental Rum Line. Distilled on a column still and matured in an ex bourbon barrel, it is presented unsweetened at a formidable 65.5%, a continental leaning indie release that turns the volume right up on the Travellers house style.
Belize column still rum is known for a soft, cocoa rich character, and tropical and continental years here have layered that with depth. The nose offers roasted notes, cocoa, cinnamon and dried fruit, leading to a woody, roasted palate of burnt sugar and warm spice. The finish is long and woody with dried fruit, coffee and a bitter edge. At this strength it arrives with real heat and concentration, so a splash of water is rewarded, drawing out the sweeter cocoa and orange marmalade notes. A robust pour for experienced palates who want power with their chocolate.
