An unsweetened single-cask Venezuelan ron from Transcontinental Rum Line, distilled in 2008 and bottled at thirteen years and a powerful 62%, dense with dried dates, prunes, cocoa, walnut and dried fig.
Description
TCRL 2008 is a Venezuelan ron from Transcontinental Rum Line, a single cask distilled in 2008 and bottled at thirteen years. It sits apart from the soft, sweetened Spanish-style mainstream: it is unsweetened and full proof at 62%, letting the spirit and cask speak without dosage smoothing them over.
Distilled on a column still from molasses and matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows what Venezuelan rum can do when left dry and bottled at strength. The nose is deep and brooding with dried dates, prunes, cocoa and walnut, and the palate doubles down on dried fruit, dried apricot, raisin and fig, powerful and concentrated. This is a rich, dry, high-strength pour built for slow neat sipping with a little water to open it, a markedly more intense and serious take than the gentle Venezuelan sippers it shares an origin with.
