A cask-strength single cask from El Salvador, bottled by Transcontinental Rum Line, delivering sweet cocoa, caramel, dried fruit and spicy bourbon oak with light esters, a complex, unsweetened Foursquare-style sipper at 63.9%.
Description
TCRL 2007 is a 14 year Salvadoran rum from the respected Transcontinental Rum Line, a molasses spirit drawn from a single 2007 cask and bottled unsweetened at a robust 63.9%. The line is known for combining tropical and continental ageing, and this release lands as a bold, crowd-pleasing expression of a country that rarely gets the spotlight.
Matured largely in ex-bourbon oak, it pours a surprisingly light gold and offers dried fruit, glue, cocoa and coffee on the nose, with a palate of sweet cocoa, caramel, roasted wood, vanilla and a light ester lift. The finish carries chocolate, nutty notes and coconut. It drinks like a Foursquare-style favourite turned up to full power, rich and spicy once the alcohol settles with a little air or water. A complex, unsweetened sipper for experienced palates who enjoy bourbon-cask depth at cask strength.
