Mount Gay markets itself as the world's oldest commercial rum distillery, its deed dated 1703 in St Lucy, Barbados, here bottled as a Secret Distillery release by That Boutique-y Rum Company, the UK independent curated by Peter Holland and known for honest, additive-free casks. This single cask has spent 22 years in ex-bourbon oak and is presented at 48.5% without added sugar. Long-aged Bajan rum of this kind typically shows deep toffee, ripe banana, vanilla and warm baking spice over light-to-medium oak, with two decades of ageing adding polish and a darker, more concentrated character. At 48.5% it stays expressive without overwhelming. A dry, mature single cask from one of the island's heritage names.
