Eucalyptus, allspice, roasted wood and leather run through this 18 Year Old Diamond from That Boutique-y Rum Company, a balanced and fairly priced single still rum, most likely Versailles, at a sippable 51.3 percent.
Description
That Boutique-y Rum Company released this Diamond at eighteen years old, leaving the exact still unconfirmed though the herbal, raw timber profile points most likely to Versailles, the single wooden pot still known for bright, tannic wood. All Guyanese rum now flows from the Diamond distillery, which keeps these heritage stills running.
Matured in ex-bourbon oak and molasses based, it shows woody spice, barrel and roasted notes on the nose, then a palate of eucalyptus, allspice, coffee and tonka over dry timber, with a faintly salty, technical edge. The tropical ageing leaves it oily and driven by wood, swinging between oak bitterness and a tarry, herbal sweetness. Sipped neat it comes across as harmonious and honestly priced, a characterful introduction to Guyanese pot still rum for the curious.
