Caroni, the Trinidad distillery that closed in 2003, is bottled today only from its finite leftover stock, and this is one of its prized heavy marks. That Boutique-y Rum Company released it for the French market at twenty four years old and a powerful 61.9%, a single cask of the dense, industrial style that collectors chase.

The molasses distillate, aged in ex-bourbon oak, shows the full heavy Caroni signature, tar and nutty wood on the nose with mango lift, then a palate of woody smoke, vanilla and cherry shot through with tar. The finish runs warm and medicinal with the rubber note that defines the distillery's heaviest output. This is the savoury, petrol-and-tropical-fruit intensity of heavy Trinidad at full strength, bottled honestly without additives, made for drinkers who seek out the most characterful side of this lost name.
