TBRC Caroni Bottled for Kirsch Whisky

That Boutique-y Rum Company, the no additives bottler curated by Peter Holland, selected this single cask of Caroni for Kirsch Whisky. Caroni, the closed Trinidad distillery rescued by Velier, is the most collectible name in rum, and this twenty three year old release sits in its prized heavy style at 56.8%.

Matured in ex-bourbon oak, it shows the classic industrial profile in a rounded, well balanced form: rubber and dried apricot on the nose over woody depth, the palate bringing leather, menthol and a dirty edge. The finish carries wood, dried fruit, menthol and a cherry note. The alcohol shows a little on the close but the overall shape is harmonious, a recognisable heavy Caroni without going to extremes. A characterful single vintage cask from a distillery that no longer produces, built for slow sipping.
